Eye Doctor/Optometrist in Whitchurch-Stouffville, ON
For those with type I and II diabetes, the Eye Health Council of Ontario amplifies the importance of annual comprehensive eye exams. This is because, individuals with diabetes have an increased prevalence and risk of developing a multitude of eye conditions as a result of commonly associated retinal damage.
Through partaking in regular eye examinations, diabetic eye disease can be diagnosed at an early stage; with treatment administered in this early stage commonly preventing vision loss. A dilated eye examination along with retinal imaging provides a detailed look inside the eye to aid in the assessment of both your eye health and overall health. Changes seen in the retina can provide potential warning signs of damage to the heart, kidneys, and other areas of the body.
Regardless of your age, eye examinations for those with diabetes are covered by OHIP on an annual basis in addition to any additional follow ups that may be required.
