Meet the face behind reflect optometry

Hi! I’m Dr. Cristina Schirripa, the proud owner of Reflect Optometry. Construction of our office is currently underway at the new Ballantrae Gates Plaza with our doors opening this Spring 2021! We are excited to join this growing community and can’t wait to meet you all!

The pandemic has changed our lives, and for many, our focuses shifted. It was a time to pause and reflect. For me, having been in practice since 2009, I felt it was a time to re-define what optometry meant to me. Now wearing PPE and having to install protective barriers, I didn’t want to lose what I loved most about my profession, connecting with people. I want you to know that I see you. Reflect Optometry is just that, a reflection of me, of you, of your families and of your community. I want to grow with you and provide you with exceptional eye care for years to come.

So what have I learned from providing eye care for the past eleven years? I believe that optometry is more than just a sight test. It is about maintaining healthy eyes, providing preventative and collaborative eye care, and developing long-lasting doctor-patient relationships. Patient education and effective communication is a key factor in those relationships, where social media, now more than ever, has proven to be a valuable tool in keeping us all connected. Communication can now go beyond the exam room allowing me to engage with the community, which helps me get to know you and serve you better.

So how did I get here? I graduated with Honours from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry and Vision Science with both a Doctorate of Optometry and Honours Bachelor of Science in 2009. My training also included an externship in Pinellas Park, Florida, where I worked directly with ophthalmologists to gain extensive clinical experience in the management of ocular diseases like glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration. Since then, I have been providing eye care in York Region and look forward to joining the community of Ballantrae in Whitchurch-Stouffville.

My goal for the future of Reflect Optometry is to create a patient-centered experience with exceptional care that is friendly, compassionate, and honest. I want to lead by example and surround myself with a team that shares these values. If you or someone you know could benefit from my optometry and eye care expertise, I would love to hear from you! I am board certified in ocular therapeutics and an active member of both the Ontario Association of Optometrists and Ontario College of Optometrists. I will be offering comprehensive eye exams to all ages, dry eye therapy, myopia control, LASIK and refractive surgery co-management, just to name a few services. Please visit my website at www.reflectoptometry.ca for more information. You can also find us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram (@reflectoptometry). I look forward to meeting you!

Sincerely,

Dr. Cristina Schirripa
